Professional Identity

My philosophy of teaching is to educate and nurture my students and to instill in them professional integrity, respect for self, clients, and others in the profession.  Counselor educators must be able to balance the duties of teaching and fostering the development of skills within their students.  I believe that being a counselor educator requires both patience and fortitude.  Students do not develop counseling skills over night, nor do the master them by rote memorization of their professor’s lectures, rather students develop their counseling skills through the combination of classroom learning, clinical practice and supervision.  To be a counselor educator is to be a guardian of the profession, and that is an honor which I take great pride and joy in.
